Tata group announces the 8th edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz at Singapore - sets the stage in Singapore for business quizzing


An annual event, this knowledge initiative aims to encourage lateral associations, speed of thought and out-of-the-box thinking

Singapore, 22nd October, 2014: The Tata group announces the 8th edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz in Singapore. The quiz, that made its international debut with the Singapore edition in 2007, seeks to bring together the student community in Singapore to test their speed of thought and out of the box thinking capabilities. The quiz with its invigorating rounds makes it the ultimate test of business intelligence with the best of infotainment. The Tata Crucible Campus Quiz will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at The Star Gallery, The Star Performing Arts Centre. Ms. Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Education, Singapore will be the Guest of Honour for the quiz.

The Tata Crucible Campus Quiz is a platform that offers Singapore's student community a unique opportunity to involve themselves with the subject of international business, in an engaging and intellectually stimulating manner. The quiz through its format of audio and visual question rounds, challenges the participants in various subjects ranging from the world of business and economy, including business houses, personalities, brands and markets, amongst other exciting topics. It will be conducted by renowned quiz master, Mr. Giri Balasubramaniam, popularly known as ‘Pickbrain’.

Rao, Resident Director, ASEAN, Tata Sons said, “The Tata Crucible Campus Quiz has a legacy of offering a platform to university students in Singapore to involve themselves with the subject of international business in an engaging and intellectually stimulating manner since 2007. The quiz, over the years has seen strong participation from all the universities, institutes of higher learning in Singapore. This year too, we look forward to yet another exciting battle of wits that will enthrall the audience and the participants alike. For us it is an interesting avenue to engage with the brightest youth in Singapore and the region.”

The quiz is open to all college student teams above the age of 18. Students can register for participation in the quiz by logging on to the website www.tatacrucible.com/sg by October 29, 2014. The top eight teams will be chosen from a preliminary written round and a quick wild card round (teams will comprise of two participants each from the same college/university). The eight teams will then battle it out for the championship. The top 2 teams will be invited to participate in the international finals to be held India in early 2015. There is no entry fee for the competition.

The winning teams will together take home cash prizes of Singapore $ 12,000.* The distribution of the cash prizes is as follow:

  • Winning team: A cash prize of S$ 7,000
  • First runner-up team: A cash prize of S$3,000
  • Second runner-up team: A cash prize of S$ 2,000

Besides the cash prizes, there are exciting goodies like tablets/e-readers and Tata Crucible merchandise for the finalists and attractive prizes for the audience.

Given the Tata group’s strong association with Singapore both as business centre and educational hub, the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz was launched in Singapore as its first international extension. The Tata group's strong recruitment programme which targets Singapore campuses gives added impetus to the event. Over the years, prominent Singapore universities and tertiary institutions have participated in large numbers and across the seven editions of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz, more than 1700 students from Singapore campuses have taken part in the quiz. The 2013 Tata Crucible Campus Quiz edition saw strong participation from campuses across the city-state, including NUS, SMU, NTU, SIM, S P Jain Center of Management and others, with NUS claiming all the top three places. Abhimanyu S and Rohan Naidu from National University of Singapore were crowned winners, closely following the lead pair were Karan Prasad and Shivam Bhardwaj. The second runners-up position was sealed by Sainyam Gautam and Kushagra Saran also from National University of Singapore. The top two teams then flew to India to compete with the other finalists from UK and India at the International Finale held in India in April 2014.

Tata presence in Singapore
In Singapore since the early 1970s, with the establishment of a precision engineering company and training centre, the Tata group has actively participated in the economic development of the country and the region. Tata Crucible Campus Quiz
Tata Crucible seeks to bring together the sharpest young minds to take on the heat of a tough business quiz. The Quiz made its debut in India in 2004 and successfully generated a huge response in the very first year itself. It has since become an annual event. The Tata Crucible Campus Quiz made its international debut with the Singapore edition in 2007. It offers Singapore's student community a unique opportunity to involve themselves with the subject of international business, in an engaging and intellectually stimulating manner. The 2013 edition saw strong participation from campuses across the city-state, including NUS, SMU, NTU, SIM, S P Jain Center of Management and others, with NUS claiming all the top three places. The UK edition was launched successfully in 2008 and the 6th edition saw the participation of around 30 leading UK universities and colleges. In order to broaden the scope of the event, since 2008-09 the concept of the grand International Finale was conceived as a face-off between the top two teams from Singapore, UK and India. In 2014, ICAI team from Bengaluru was the National Champions from India. The team from KIIT University, Bhubaneswar was the overall International Champions of Tata Crucible.
