Over 200 students from college campuses across Orissa thronged the capital city. The battle was tense, as teams from this city, in the past, have gone on to win the coveted title. With expectations riding high, Pickbrain started proceedings with a crisp 20 question prelim, and the finalists who made it were:

The finalists were:

  • XIM Bhubaneswar: Md. Abid and Nishan
  • KIIT Bhubaneswar: Rahil S. and Gourav J. N.
  • XIM Bhubaneswar: Rohit and Rahul
  • Silicon Inst. Of Technology: Jyoti Prakash Panda and Arnab Banerjee
  • IIIT Bhubaneswar: Sheikh Sohail and Satwik Raut
  • KIIT Bhubaneswar: Abhinav Dhar and Siddharth Mishra

Business quizzing was a new concept to this city barely a few years ago but, has now become a pitched battle amongst campuses. The final was very tense, as the first ‘over’ ended with four teams in the negative and two teams yet to score.

The seasoned quizmaster observed that it was early nerves in a good city and true to his view, teams started scoring at a brisk pace. KIIT, with Abhinav and Siddharth, gave some quality answers and went into the lead. The duo from Silicon Institute cracked tough posers, but took too many negatives to be able to make a comeback.

It was just past the mid-way that the duo from XIMB (Rohit and Rahul) came up with a series of outstanding answers that stumped everyone and got them within striking distance of KIIT. The excitement mounted as the quiz inched to the final overwith XIMB still powering through. With one question remaining, they were on the verge of a great victory, having caught up with KIIT in style.

As Pickbrain fired the final salvo, the XIMB team took the initiative and went for the buzzer bravely but got the answer wrong. KIIT which played the entire quiz with great maturity and without overdoing things, marched into the zonal.

The guest of honour Dr. Fr. Paul Fernandes, Vice Chancellor – XUB, congratulated the teams and urged them to use their knowledge and confidence to ‘do more for themselves, the nation and the world’.
