Corporate Quiz Results - Cochin – Malayala Manorama takes Kochi

Cochin, Aug 05, 2008: It was a year ago that the Tata Crucible was introduced to the state of Kerala and the inaugural edition has witnessed a participation from around 40 teams. This year that number nearly doubled to 75 teams as people travelled from as far as Trissur, Trivandrum, Kottayam and Calicut to be part of Tata Crucible.

The prelim seemed a tricky affair with team missing some easy ones and getting the tougher ones, but all in all it was a good performance, and the difference between the top six teams that qualified into the final was not much. The finalists were:

V Guard – Deepak Auqustine & Komal Shah
Malayala Manorama – Arun Thomas Abraham & Ranjit K Wilson.
Citi Bank – Ram & Navnit
Idea Cellular – Tom Jose & Titty Thomas
Indian Oil Corporation – Thomas George & Vipin Austin
FACT – Anil Raghavan & Sree Kumar

The final began with all teams making valiant efforts and cracking questions that seemed – not so simple, yet when the answers came in one thought it was well worked out. At the end of the first two rounds nothing much separated the teams on stage but as the quiz moved into the lateral thoughts round, the teams from Malayala Manorama, Citi Bank and Indian Oil moved ahead of the pack, while in the Code Buster round the duo from Malayala Manorama came up with some brilliant answers to stay clear of the rest.

In the final round, it was all nerves for the second spot with Citi Bank and Indian Oil battling it out while Malayala Manorama cracked a couple more to ensure they won hands down (they were the runner up last year and had lost on a tie breaker) and got themselves a cash price of Rs.75000/-. The team from Indian Oil managed to get past Citi Bank to win Rs.35,000/- as runnerup.

What made the huge crowd happy was the truly improved performance by the teams this year both in the prelim and the final, an indicator that corporate quizzing at Gods own country has hit a growth path. Kudos Kerala.
