Campus Quiz Results - Kochi – GEC Thrissur win Cochin
The Kochi edition of the final started with both humour and relief. Humour from the anchor and relief from the fact that IIM-K and NIT-K would not be taking part here thanks to the introduction of Calicut as a city. The prelim featured a mix of tricky questions and a fair sprinkling from the state of Kerala that kept the teams thinking.
The finalists were:
- Govt. College of Engineering: Amit Kumar and Bharath
- Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies: John Paul and Vivek Bhaskaran
- Govt. Law College: John Sebastian and Feny Joy
- DCSMAT Vagamon: Rijilal and Gautham
- Mar Athanasius Col of Engg: Francis Thomas and Deepak A
- TKM Engg. College, Kollam: Manu Mohanan and Bala Narayanan
The final was a very keenly fought battle from the word go. In the early rounds it was teams from GEC, Govt. Law and DCSMAT that took the initiatives and moved ahead. In the very next rounds Mar Athanasius started clawing their way into the quiz final with some really good answers.
The battle was very even almost till the final round when Mar Athanasius and GEC got ahead and on the final question just when it looked like GEC were though, the duo from Mar Athanasius came up with a brilliant strike to close the quiz on a tie breaker. In the long tie break that followed GEC finally prevailed and made it to the zonal round at Bangalore.
Quizmaster Pickbrain made a passionate pitch for each quizzer to bring in a new quizzer the next year to grow the tribe of quizzing. He also applauded the effort of senior Kerala quizzers like Anil Raghavan of FACT, the current Corporate Crucible champion, who present at the event.
The guest of honour Mr.Santosh Kurup, the head of TCS Kochi urged the teams to “scale on the learning curve to acquiring knowledge and applying the same” which is what would help take their careers forward.
