National University of Singapore crowned as the winners of the Singapore edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2015

  • The business quiz brings Singapore’s sharpest young minds together and tests their speed of thought and lateral thinking skills
  • Rohan Naidu and Shivam Bhardwaj from National University of Singapore emerge victorious at 9th edition of the quiz in Singapore

Singapore, 29th October 2015:
The 9th edition of the Singapore’s popular inter-collegiate business quiz- Tata Crucible Campus Quiz concluded with a nail biting finish where Rohan Naidu and Shivam Bhardwaj from National University of Singapore were announced as the champions of the quiz. The finals was a spectacular show of intellect and quizzing and the Quizmaster Giri ‘Pickbrain’ Balasubramaniam kept the audience engaged and spell- bound till the very end. Following the lead pair were first runners-up Tejasvin Samarth and Mudit Kedia from National University of Singapore, who secured their place at the very last question.

The finals consisted of multiple rounds of high energy quizzing which required the contestants to be quick on the buzzer and display speed-of-light thinking. After defeating some of the toughest teams from Singapore and winning the quiz, the duo from National University of Singapore were awarded a cash prize of S$ 7,000. The first runners up Tejasvin Samarth and Mudit Kedia from National University of Singapore won a cash prize of S$3,000. The second runners up position was sealed by Jishnu Mohan and Abhishek Gupta from National University of Singapore who claimed a cash prize of S$ 2,000.

Elated at winning the Singapore round, Rohan Naidu said, “Quizzing, the way we describe it it’s more of a way of life. You are always curious about things around you”. He also added, “It is not something you will like to prepare for the way you prepare for an exam, like there is no syllabus, there is no textbook, it’s everything around you and you just have to be curious.” Shivam Bhardwaj team partner of Rohan added, “For me, it’s mostly about keeping up with the news and following what’s trending on the social media and websites. It is always good to come back and defend the title and it gives us the confidence”.

Chief guest for the evening, Her Excellency Ms. Vijay Thakur Singh, the High Commissioner of India to Singapore, presented the prizes to the winning teams. Delighted to be at the event she said, “I am very happy to be at Tata Crucible and I thoroughly enjoyed the quiz. I can tell the participants’ answers were brilliant. With minds like that, we are sure that they are going to be thinking ahead, looking at issues ahead that face the world and finding answers that are good answers. Truly quizzes are something that is the best mental exercise. I think the Tata group did a very good thing by starting with Tata Crucible out here. I congratulate them for that and wish them the very best and big cheers and applause for the participants and the winners.”

Over the years the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz has established itself as one of the most awaited quizzes for the student community.It is a unique platform that engages the student community on diverse subjects ranging from the world of business and economy in an intellectually stimulating manner.

In its 9th edition, the quiz received participation from 200 plus students (106 teams of two contestants each) from prominent local institutions including Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Singapore Management University and Singapore University of Technology & Design.

The preliminary round saw 26 questions across various topics addressed to all participants. This was followed by a short wild card round amongst teams ranked 7 to 14 based on the scores, out of which 3 teams who joined the 5 top scoring teams to make an 8 team stage final.

The final 8 teams on stage, all of whom were tested with five rounds of live, rapid-fire quizzing, included:

  • Shivam Bhardwaj and Rohan Naidu from National University of Singapore
  • Tejasvin Samarth and Mudit Kedia from National University of Singapore
  • Jishnu Mohan and abhishek Gupta from National University of Singapore
  • Hafiz W Hidayat and Ms.Monica Marcellina from Nanyang Technological University
  • Seah Kwee Lim and Ankit Sanghvi from Singapore Management University
  • Agrim Singh and Yadunund Vijay from Singapore University of Technology & Design
  • Yashashvni S Agrawal and Prateek Agrawal from National University of Singapore
  • Akshat Dubey and Vinay Pullakhandam from National University of Singapore

The evening was graced by senior Tata leaders from Singapore and representatives from the local universities amongst others.

The first telecast is on 19th November, 2015 at 8.30 pm (GMT+8) and the repeat telecasts are on 20th November, 2015 at 1.30am and 6.30pm (GMT+8) and 21st November, 2015 at 1.30 pm (GMT+8).

Tata Crucible Campus Quiz
Given the Tata group’s strong association with Singapore both as business centre and educational hub, the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz was launched in Singapore as its first international extension. Over the years, prominent Singapore universities and tertiary institutions have participated in large numbers and across the nine editions of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz, more than 1900 students from Singapore campuses have taken part in the quiz.
