SJMSOM & COE Pune win
The western zonal final of Tata Crucible was a treat from the word go. It is a region that does feature some of the top institutions of our nation. Mumbai and Pune are known for their quizzing as is Goa with its consistent performance in this quiz, over the years. Pickbrain set a standard that had some of the regulars think twice before they buzzed. The final six were:

  • Vishesh Tiwari - NIT Raipur
  • Preetham Upadhya - SJMSOM (IIT Bombay)
  • Diganto Sarkar - Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda
  • Prayag Mohanty - BITS Pilani Goa Campus
  • Prajot Patne - College of Engineering Pune
  • Kaivalya Karkare - IIM Indore
It was a battle that saw all the contestants play really well. Most of the early rounds saw the contestants in a huddle with no one really finding the grip to throttle ahead. It was perhaps, the excellent balance of the questions that did them in. It was only in the final round where Preetham came back strongly with back-to-back answers that took him into the lead. With others in the fray taking negatives, he was too seasoned a quizzer to not win it from here on, which he did. Prajot from Pune prevailed, battling a tie to win a slot in the play offs.

The guest of honour Mr. R.Mukundan, MD & CEO Tata Chemicals, spoke of how the pandemic has brought with it lessons to learn and opportunities to seize for a better future. He advised the youngsters to always stay positive and prepared for unpredictable scenarios. He also appreciated Tata Crucible for innovating and ensuring the event continued like always.
