Crucible 2007 Winners Interview
Congrats on being the new national champions of Tata Crucible.Let me begin with a simple question, has it really sunk in that you are the nation's best?
It is a great feeling. We always wanted to do well in this quiz, but winning has exceeded our own expectations.
How did it feel when you actually won the title and held the coveted trophy in your hands?
Fantastic. The quiz format in the finals was edge-of-the-seat stuff, with not a moment to relax. We are happy personally as well as for our employer (Deutsche Bank) as they have been extremely supportive.
Did you prepare for any specific round or did something different as a team that you would want to share?
Giri gave us a tip after the regional finals (which we scraped through) - to be better prepared. We took that advice to heart and that has worked well for us.
Who did you mark out as contenders at that forum?
These are all good teams. They have won the regional rounds in their cities, so we were not taking any team lightly! We believed that the main competition will come from Questas (who were winners last year), Vizag Steel (who were in such blazing form in the regional round) and Savoir Faire (who are good at the buzzer rounds and ran us very close in the Brand Equity all India finals).
What is your opinion about Tata Crucible as a quiz concept?
It is a good concept. The regional rounds in 12 centres, the Tata and non-Tata tracks, the audience rounds, everything contributes to informed entertainment.
Your take on the tormentor, Pickbrain?
He is good and getting better every passing day! His questions are able to engage the teams and entertain the audiences, which is a tough job any time.
