Over 300 enthusiastic quizzers were part of an absorbing edition of Tata Crucible at Nagpur. It is a city that has several colleges with passionate quizzers, making it a big event for them, each year. The prelim was on the tougher side given the reputation of the city for its quizzing interests. The six teams that made it were:
VNIT: Mukund Srinivasan and Aditya Prava
IGNOU: Aman Mishra and Vishwaroop K
Hislop College: Aniruddha and Raunak Patni
Ambedkar College of Law: Ashwin Rang and Shreerang Sapre
IMT Nagpur: Gopal and Avikshith Shetty
VNIT: Ms. Rucha Nail and Ms. Sreelakshmi Reddy
Champions, VNIT - Mukund Srinivasan and Aditya Prava
The final was a very evenly contested battle with all teams eager to move ahead. In their enthusiasm to score, some of the teams lost early runs with negatives. The VNIT duo of Mukund and Aditya got a little ahead of the rest with some good strikes.
The IMT and IGNOU duo then started playing aggressive and took too many half chances that backfired and they were knocked back by the negatives. Mukund and Aditya in the meantime played smart and did not take any negatives, effectively increasing their lead at the expense of the mistakes the other teams made.
A few good hits and Hislop were moving ahead too while Mukund and Aditya were calm and collective, understanding the value of the lead they had. This helped them hold off the challenge and win the quiz. A last round burst by the law duo brought them close to Hislop, but it was not enough to beat them to the runner up position.
The guest of honour Mr. Lokesh Ranjan Srivatsan, Head of Aerospace Business of TAL, Tata Group, who himself has been a Tata Crucible runner up, appreciated the teams on their performance. He spoke of how knowledge is power and an inquisitive mind seeks that knowledge.
